READINESS TO MEET EMERGENCY
PLANS IN WANGANUI CITY MAYOR GIVES AN ASSURANCE Speaking at a meeting of the Wanganui City Council Last night the Mayor (lion W. J Rogers, M.L.C.), gave an assurance that everything possible was being done to place the city in a state of readiness to meet any emergency likely to arise from the war or other causes. “We are working day and right at the oilice and if as much as people think ought to be made public is not published it is because we have no wish to alarm the public," he said. He told the council that the scheme drawn up by the former city engineer, the late Mr. J. S. L. Deem, had formed the basis of co-ordination work now in hand. The Government itself had brought out a scheme, but, with Slight, amendments, had approved of the Wanganui plans. A meeting had been held and the council would be called together soon to co-ordinate the work of the committees now engaged on their respective duties.
