SCHOOL COMMITTEE (Own Correspondent). HUNTERVILLE, July 30. At the monthly meeting of the school committee, held last week, the fencing committee reported that they had considered tenders for the re-erec-tion of fences and had accepted a tender with the approval of the representatives of the Town Board. It was decided to proceed with the planting of suitable shrubs and trees along the southern boundary of the school ground, the chairman, Mr. D. D. Simpson, having supplied a number of young kowhais, and was authorised to purchase a number of rhododendrons. The secretary reported that in regard to the circular issued about outstanding dental clinic fees, the majority of parents had responded and paid promptly, but that it was necessary for those outstanding still to be collected to meet the financial liabilities of the clinic. Present at the meeting were Mr. D. D. Simpson (chairman), Rev. P. Wiltshire (secretary), Messrs. J. Klue, F. R. Ching, S. Gibbs, J. Tabor, W. G. Holder. RANGITIRA GOLF CLUB The final for the men’s championship was played between E. W. Donovan and J. Potaka over a course of 36 holes. The first 18 were very even, Donovan taking 79, Potaka 78, the second round Donovan evened the match at the 14th., the last four holes being halved. At. the 37th. Donovan duffed his tee shot, Potaka winning the hole and the championship after an evenlycontested match. In the second round Donovan took 77 and Potaka 78. FOOTBALL During the week-end Poukiore and Mangaonoho played a return match at Mr. F. Powell’s ground, Mangaonoho. After a vdry even game Mangaonoho emerged winners, the score being in their favour, 6-3. Mr. Bert Johnson held the whistle. SCHOOL FOOTBALI, On Friday last Taihape District School sent their team to Hunterville to play th? Hunterville Consolidated School, the result being a very easy win for Hunterville. The final score was 45-0. The Taihape boys were outclassed in every department of the game. BASKETBALL The Taihape girls tried conclusions with Hunterville School on Friday and were more successful than the boys, winning one of the:i matches. Results were: Taihape A 14, v. Hunterville A 6; Taihape B 7, v. Hunterville B 10. At the conclusion of the games the teams were entertained to afternoon tea before returning home. FARM PRODUCERS’ MEETING At a meeting held last week there were present Messrs. V. F. Toulmin (chairman), D. D. Simpson (secretary), R. G. Dalziell, J. Bull, L. Bull, C. Chisholm, P. Weston, L. Lambert, L. Laird, Kelvin, Hammond, and W. Munro. Reports were handed in by those present concerning the response towards increasing production, which was considered very satisfactory. Without exception, everyone approached was willing to assist in increasing production, but undoubtedly there is a shortage of suitable labour which even the placement officers are unable to fill. Many farmers are prepared to place various areas of land under the plough again. It was stated at the meeting that two firms were prepared to undertake contracts for ploughing and harvesting this year. Messrs. Toulmin. Simpson, Dalziell and L. Bull were appointed an executive and the W.D.F.U. Womens Institute are also to be asked to each appoint a representative to this executive. HUNTERVILLE M.R. ANNUAL DANCE Next Wednesday, August 7. the Hunterville troop of the Mounted Rilles are to hold their annual dance in the Hunterville Town Hall. The Midnight Revellers’ orchestra will provide the music, and a good turn-out •is assured. The nett proceeds will go to the Red Cross funds. Besides having an enjoyable evening, patrons of the dance will be helping a worthy cause. A notice in another column sets forth particulars.
