RANGITIKEI A. AND P. SHOW

TO BE HELD AS USUAL. PROFITS FORi' RED CROSS FUND. (Own Correspondent.) TAIHAPE, July 30. After a short discussion the Rangitikei A. and P. Association decided at its annual meeting on Saturday, to . carry on with its annual show, which is to be held next February. Any profits made during the year will be donated to the Red Cross. The secretary read a report of a conference held at Palmerston North recently at which the great majority of delegates representing A. and P. Associations were in favour of annual shows being held as usual during wartime. e Mr. N. Anderson: I think that we j should carry on. j Mr. A. J. Mickleson': We have al- t ready held one very successful show t during wartime and it would be un- r wise to abanddn our annual show. We should at least hold one more show and we can then review the ; position if necessary. Mr. W. J. Williams: Shows and J races should be cut out in wartime. We must wake up to the fact that the British Empire is engaged in a life and death struggle with Germany and every man, woman and child should rise to the greatest war effort. * Mr. A. R. Fannin: I agree that we 7 should all do our best to help win the J war but I cannot see that A. and P. ‘ sflows and races are in the same category. Shows help to increase produc- Ji tion and the loss would be greater if we abandoned them. It is in the in- .

terests of the district to hold the show e and I will move in this direction. J Mr. W. R. Anderson seconded the J motion that the show be held. He expressed the opinion that the time had not arrived when shows should be abandoned. It would be a great pity to cut out the Taihape show. s Mr. G. E. Anderson endorsed the re- ) marks of the previous speakers in re- i gard to the advisability of holding the I show and added that if the function c was to be a success it would be unwise i to reduce the prize-money. 1 Mr. J. Collier suggested that the 1 show should be held as usual and that e the profits should go to the Red Cross, c The motion to hold the show was I carried. Mr. J. Collier then moved a motion that all profits made during the year should be devoted to the Red Cross. ? Mr. A. E. Samways seconded the ‘ motion. A member inquired if it was in order to give all the profits to the Red Cross. J Mr. A. W. Bignell thought that the motion was out of order and said that he wanted £25 set aside for repairs to the yards. A Voice: Only the profits go to the Red Cross. We can easily set aside f £25 lor repairs to the yards. I Mr. E. Fannin: We run a better £ chance of making the show a success \ if the public know that the profits go \ to the Red Cross. < Mr. A. .1. Mickleson: It must not be t forgotten that we gave £BO to charity last year. We had a successful show and yet we lost £29. I think it is a little early to say at this stage what y we are going to do with our money. , Mr. W. R. Anderson suggested that J the funds from the guessing competition to the war purposes. | Mr. V. Nicholls: I think that Mr. x Collier’s idea is a good one. If we make a profit on the year the profit t goes to the Red Cross. If we make | nothing then we will have nothing to give. Mr. J. C. Revell spoke in favour of the motion. Mr. Collier thought that expenses in ' connection with the show should be curtailed by employing as much vol- ’ untary labour as possible. J Mr. A.: F. Fannin thought that the 1 profits on the year should go to pat- 1 riotic funds. He moved an amendment to this effect. Mr. A. Mickleson I seconded the amendment. ' Mr. L. O'Callaghan was of the ' opinion that the association should be ' careful with its funds and pointed out I that the association had no security. < Mr. Collier’s motion that any profits I made during the year should be don- ' ated to the Red Cross was carried.
