Dr. J. D. Salmond, director of youth work for the Presbyterian • Church of New Zealand, who has been spending the past month in Auckland, left on Tuesday to visit the Presbytery of North Auckland. Dr. Alexander Stuart King, younger son of Rev. and Mrs. Stuart King, Strath Taieri, Otago, has passed with distinction, the degree in tropical medicine. He is now occupying a position on the staff of the Medical School, Edinburgh. During the currency of that appointment he will study to become an F.R.C.S. Dr. King has offered his services to the War Office in London and hopes that eventually he may be able to serve with a medical unit attached to the New Zealand Forces.

Mr. Cheviot Bell, who has been chairman of the Wellington Division of the National Party for the past three years, did not seek re-election at the annual conference of the division on Tuesday. Eulogistic references were made by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Hamilton, by the Dominion president of the National Party, Mr. C. H. Weston, K.C., and by delegates to the conference, to the magnificent service that Mr. Bell had rendered to the party. Later Mr. C. G. E. Harker, Waipawa, moved, on behalf of the- conference, a resolution of appreciation which was carried with musical honours.
