SCHEME DROPPED
PUBLIC SERVICE OVERTIME CONTRIBUTION [ I’ress Association. J WELLINGTON. April 23. The proposed scheme by which the personnel of the Public Service should agree to work overtime witheut pay for a few hours a week as a contribution to the war effort has, it is understood, been abandoned.
The proposal, which emanated from the Public Service Association as a gesture to help the country, was then officers of all grades in the various departments should agree to give up to eight or ten hours a week of their leisure time to assist in prepaimg a national register of manpower for war.
An officer of one department saiu to-day the scheme had been killed by the unfavourable attitude of the younger men in the service, part- : larly the temporary employees.
