NAZIS FALL BACK
VICINITY OF TRONDHEIM ‘•MOPPING VP” NORTH OF NARVIK Received April 23, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, April 22. The Allies’ positions in Norway are obscure, but optimism prevails that the initial operations are proceeding according to plan. The Germans are reported to be falling back both north and south of Trondheim and the French forces are "mopping . up’’ north of Narvik. The British and Norwegian troop* appear to be extending control of the strategic lateral roads and railways eastward and south-eastward from Andalsnes and Vaerdalsoren. It is reported that British from Romsdals Fiord have occupied the railway to Dovre, including Dombaas. I The Norwegians are searching for German stragglers in this region arrayed in white for disguise. They have converted German parachutes to overalls. The positions east and north-east i’.om Oslo are confused, with conflicting claims on each side to Hamar and Elverum and the reports of the fighting south of these towns.
