PHILCOURT DESTROYED

THIRD OF UNLUCKY FAMILY STRANGE COINCIDENCE While galloping with Dauber at Takanini recently, Philcourt, by Philamor from Lady Marie, broke a fetlock and was destroyed. The loss is a severe one for his owner, Mr. G. Courtney, as Philcourt. who is partial to soft tracks, was expected to race well during the winter. It is a coincidence that Philcourt makes the third of the progeny ot the orood mare Lady Marie to suffer in this manner, the others being Gay Sheik, by Gay Shield, who broke a shoulder while racing in Australia, and Marie’s Acre, by Acre, who broke a fetlock while racing at Paeroa early in the season. Philcourt was involved in the memorable Great Northern Guineas contest last year, when he suffered interference in the incident involving Gay Son and Hot Box, ano which subsequently ended in the reversing of the piacings giving Hot Box the decision. Philcourt had previously won the Avondale Guineas. Tnis season, Philcourt had started in 16 races for a first, two seconds and a third, his success being in the Puketaha Handicap at the Waikato summer meeting. Earlier in the term, he was second to Hot Box in the Poland Cup at Paeroa, and filled a similar place behind Very Glad in the Mem-

ners’ Handicap at the Waikato Hunt Club meeting on Labour Day. Philcourt’s last race was the Islington Handicap at the Auckland Easier meeting, in which he finished third to Bronze Moth and Pocket Venus.
