WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
UPPER WAITOTARA. Fine weather prevailed for the April meeting of the Upper Waitotara Women’s Institute. Mrs. Tlngey, president, welcomed visitors from the Wanganui. Federation, namely Mrs Shanks, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Staite and Mrs. Owles, who brought with them many interesting samples of arts and crafts. After the usual business was dealt with, the visiting ladies entertained with demonstrations, which were much enjoyed by the members. The smocked check aprons proved a popular attraction. The competitions resulted as follows:—Best bowl of berries, Mrs. James 1, Mrs. Bell 2; three plain scones, Mrs. James 1, Mrs. Bell 2, Mrs. Perry 3. Competitions for May are: Best arranged floating bowl and article made from a sugar bag. During the afternoon, Mrs. Annabell, in making a presentation to Mrs. Allen and Miss Ngaire Allen, who are leaving the district, expressed sincere regret in losing two such active members.
