WANGANUI POWER BOARD MEETING WORK DURING MONTH I It was reported at yesterday’s | ! monthly meeting of the Wanganui-1 • Rangitikei Electric-power Board that ! 12 new consumers were connected I during March and 52 extensions in I 1 existing installations. The total number of consumers is 11,870. There were present at the meeting Messrs. F. Purnell (chairman). Messrs. W. J. Rogers, D. McGregor,' H. J. McManaway, Hope Gibbons, P. Munro, M. J. Ryan and R. G. Dalziell. The engineer, reporting on the Tai- ■ hape area, said an extension of 33 i chains of 11,000-volt line, 13 chains of I low-tension line and one transformer! has been completed on the Utiku-, Taoroa Road to supply new con-' sumers Six new service lines were built in I the Marton area during the month. On the 6600-volt line between Turakina and the Bulls-Turakiha road all bluegum poles have been replaced by hardwood. The copper-clad steel conductors which were in bad condition have been replaced by copper, and the line is now in good condition. A number of new poles have been ■ erected on the Flock House line, where bluegum poles are in bad condition and the change-over to new i poles will be carried out at such times , as will cause the least inconvenience • to consumers. Tree cutting has been carried out at Huntervine, Turakina and on the Otaire line. In the Wanganui area an extension of 34 chains of 6600-volt line with one transformer has been erected in the Wangaehu Valley to supply new load Eleven now services were run and extensions were made to three existing services. Breakdown at Waverley A breakdown occurred in the 11,000volt condenser at Waverley. As no spare parts were available to make permanent repairs, the condenser was reconnected in such a manner as to give two-thirds of its original capacity, and placed back in service. Permanent repairs will be carried out when spares are procured from the manufacturers in Britain. A 5 K.V.A. 11,000-volt transformer has been replaced by one of 10 K.V.A. capacity in Brewer’s Lane, Waverley, to meet increased demand for power. A 100 K.V.A. transformer has been moved from casein works, which have been closed down, to Spier; Street, Aramo-ho, and the 50 K.V.A. : previously installed at Spier Street’ has been erected on Anzac Parade, adjacent to the Aramoho School, to* improve voltage regulation.
