MOSAIC AGAIN

Koatanui-bred Horse’s Sydney Cup SECOND SUCCESSIVE WIN HIGH-PRICED TIDERACE COLT SCORES A.J.C. MEETING AT RANDWICK Received March 25, 10.30 p.m. SYDNEY, March 25. Mosaic justified the strong public confidence reposed in him to-day by winning the Sydney Cup for the second year in succession at Randwick, amid cheers. The surprise of the race, however, was Royal Chief’s splendid showing after a somewhat lean period. He maintained a handy position, about fourth, throughout the race, and dashed past Yours Truly, who faded out at the three furlongs, to assume the lead into the straight. Then Mosaic came on the scene and, leading Royal Chief at the Leger, won full of running. Yours Truly found the journey too far despite his comparatively light weight and vigorous rider. Maikai travelled on the outside of the field but finished on strongly to gain third place. Elanage and Round Up were near the tail throughout. The former New Zealand colt Tiaal Wave, a half-brother of Yours Truly, 1 won the First Division of the Wentworth Handicap. By Tiderace from My Own, he cost 1450 guineas at the Trentham yearling sales. The jockey D. Munro had his seventh successive win at this when he rode Mosaic to victory in the Sydney Cup. His successes included the Doncaster on Mildura. Munro said he had a nice run all the way and was confident of his win. The jockey

Cook said Yours Truly had every chance but was unable to finish on •when the pace was clapped on at the homeward stretch. The weather was hot and there was an immense crowd. The course was in excellent order despite the absence of rain. Results are: — Easter Plate.—Session 8.7 (Munro) 1, Lady Neith 8.7 (Coutts) 2, Sally Rich 8.0 (Shean) 3. Six started.
