CAR HIT BY TRAIN
DRIVER BADLY INJURED COMPANION ALSO HURT WOMAN FOUND AT CROSSING (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, March 25. An accident occurred at the Petone railway crossing this morning when a special race train which left Wellington at 8.26 struck a motor-car broadside on and carried it 150 yards before the train pulled up. The driver of the car, J. Scott, of Endeavour Street, Lyall Bay, suffered a fractured skull, and the other occupant, Kenneth John Prankerd, 3 Randwick Road, Northland, bruises and shock. Both were still in the front seat when the car was released from the engine. While this was being done, Mrs. Patricia Holz, 9 The Esplanade, Petone, was discovered back at the crossing with concussion and severe facial and scalp wounds. It appears that she had come out from Wellington on a bus and was crossing the road when she somehow became involved in the accident. All three injured were taken to the Wellington Hospital.
