VISIT TO PORT AHURIRI 1 [ ENJOYABLE GAMES AND OUTING The good fellowship which obtains in men’s bowling clubs is just as evident in the women’s section at the ’ Port Ahuriri Club, says the Hawke’s ■ Bay Daily Mail. As recently as four ; weeks ago the Port ladies oiler ed to 1 billet and entertain three rinks from the Hokowhitu (Palmerston North) Club for a week’s bowling. This proved such a pleasure to both visitors and the local club that a similar invitation was extended to the Castleclifi (Wanganui) Club, and the past week ' has seen some keen competitions m ’ rink play between the two clubs. Details of games are as follows, ' Wanganui names first: — ’ Mesdames Shirley, Bonner, Pettit, Brown 25, Mesdames Riddell, Batchelor, Pool, Crawford 13. Mesdames Oxley, Robinson, Allen, Young 9, Miss Hannah, Mesdames Lockwood, Hanse, Mackay 24. Mesdames Shirley, Bonner, Pettit, Brown 13, Miss Hannah, Mesdames Hardaker, Northe, Mackay 27. Mesdames Oxley, Robinson, Allen, Young 19, Mesdames Gillies, Mitchell. Sinclair, Logan 24. Progressive Pairs Tourney. Thursday was a gala day, when forty women bowlers played a progressive pairs tourney on the Port Ahuriri greens. The weather was perfect, the greens very keen, and the games most enjoyable. Entries were solicited from the Heretaunga Ladies’ Club, thus enabling some of their members to meet , the Wanganui visitors. Trophies for the tourney were presented by Messrs. Pettit, Pirie and 1. Riddell. The honours in each case went to a Port Ahuriri bowler. The leads’ prize was won by Mrs. H. Batchelor (no losses;, the runner-up being Mrs. Gillies (one loss). A Triple Tie. Three skips, Mesdames Lattimore : (Heretaunga), H. Hansen and F. D. Logan, tied for first place, and alter two exciting play-ofts, which had to be decided each time on an extra head, this trophy went to Mrs. F. D. Logan. Social Evening Heid. In addition to the games, an enjoyable social evening was held in the club’s pavilion, wnen the social room was arranged as a comfortable lounge, wiln palms, terns, coniry chairs and occasional tables. An excel- 1 lent programme, a savoury supper, followed by a short dance, made up a pleasant evening. On Thursday evening the visitors were again entertained at a picture party and supper. The president of the club (Mrs. R. V. McCarthy) presented the tropines won during the pairs tourney, and the club's patron (Mr. J. P. Smith) congratulated all the ladies on their high standard of play. He also thanked Mr. Sharkey, of the Heretaunga Club, for making himself responsible for the smooth running of the tournament. When the Wanganui visitors left on Friday by the express train they were enthusiastic in their praise of Napier’s sunshine, of the enjoyable time spent, and of the generous hospitality accorded them. As the train left each was presented with Hawke's Bay fruit for the journey and a tastefully arranged shoulder spray. 3, time, 12.4 sec.
