TRIBUTE TO FARMERS’ UNION

MEAT CHARGES IN WANGANUI VALLE OF BEING- ORGANISED The important part which the Farmers’ Union had taken in dealing with freight and freezing charges on meat exported from Wanganui was made at a general meeting of farmers yesterday, by Mr. D. A. Cameron, Turakina. Many farmers would get the benefit of the concessions the union was fighting for, he said, and he appealed for those who were not members to join. “You cannot get anything without an organisation,” said Mr. W. Peat (Wanganui), supporting Mr. Cameron. Mr. Peat said that all that had been done had become possible because of the union. “There are other things to be dealt with, transport, farm costs and others,” said Mr. Peat. “This is an opportune time for all farmers to get behind the union. When the annual meeting is held very soon I hope there is a big attendance.” The meeting placed on record its appreciation of the work of the special committee, which had negotiated with the freezing companies.
