FAREWELL TO MEN FOR OVERSEAS (Own Correspondent). HUNTERVILLE, March 19. More than 250 people assembled at the Hunterville Railway Station last night to farewell Ableseaman N. Morton, who has left to re-join his ship, H.M.S. Achilles. The Town Hall was crowded when L?iding-Aircraftsman J. McMillan and Private A. Gillespie were farewelled. PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE The Patriotic Committee met last night, Mr. R. A. Gordon presiding. Mr. K. Orr and the Rev. Brown were added to the committee. Arrangements were made for a farewell to be held on Tuesday, March 26, to men of the Second Echelon. j SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED Hunterville district soldiers on leave from the various military camps were the guests of the Hunterville Club at a social gathering to-night. A happy evening was spent and the hospitality of the club was much appreciated by the men. INTENDED TRIP TO EXHIBITION COMMITTEE FORMED TO | GAIN INFORMATION (Own Correspondent). HUNTERVILLE, March 18. j A meeting was held to-night to dis- ' cuss the suggestion that a special , excursion to the Exhibition in Wei- I lington be arranged. It was suggested i that a special train be engaged. Mr. R. A. Gordon presided. Mr. D. ! Simpson, chairman of the School Committee, addressed the meeting and i outlined what the proposal was. After discussing the matter fully, it was decided to set up a committee to make full enquiries throughout the ■ district to ascertain who is likely to ' go. This committee is to report back • to a further meeting after Easter ■ Meanwhile, residents of Hunterville and district who contemplate making ; the trip are asked to communicate with the secretary, Mr. J. Dickie. The members of the committee elected to : undertake the enquiry are: Messrs. J. Klue, G. Clarke, G. Coleman, F. Hurst. D. Coleman, and the secretary.
