RANGIWAHIA NOTES

SHOW DANCE. (Own Correspondent). RANGIWAHIA, March 16. The local hall was filled to its utmost for the evening’s entertainment after the Centennial Show. From 7.45 until 9.45 special pictures were shown, after which the younger folk made merry at the Grand Centennial Dance. Visitors were present from as far as Feilding and Waituna to enjoy the excellent dance music provided by a Feilding orchestra. During the evening the president ol the show committee, Mr. E. G. Billinghurst, thanked all those .who had helped ia making the show the success it was. He made special mention of the work and time the secretary had put in to arrange the day's programme. Mr. Billinghurst also thanked the ladies for their wonderful co-operation in attending to the luncheon booth and the supper arrangements. He then announced the winners of the weight-guessing competitions. The weight of the sheep was 1531b5. and Mrs. J. S. Mclntyre was the winner with 1531b5. 3 ozs. j Mr. S. A. Meads and Mr. Mills both i guessed the correct weight (811bs.) for the lamb. The points prize over the axemen’s events was won by C. H. McKenzie, of Apiti. PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE. A general meeting of the public was held last week for the purpose of forming a district patriotic committee. There was a good gathering of residents of the district, and Major Brown, of the Feilding Salvation Army, outlined the purpose of the i Patriotic Society and also the object | of the Fighting Services Welfare I Appeal. i A committee was formed and disj trict collectors were appointed. ! Those on the committee are: Chairj man, Mr. D. F. Couper; secretary, W. i E. Boshier; also Messrs. J. Watt, R. , Deroles, W. S. Marshall, C. McGregor, I H. Fankhauser, N. Saywell, H. W. Thompson, E. L. B. Pemberton, R. H. H. Guthrie, and A. O'Dwyer.
