AFTER EIGHT YEARS

RANGITIKEI RUGBY* LEADER DOES NOT SEEK OFFICE MR. R. C. S. McKENZjE, BULLS After having been presillent of the Rangitikei Rugby Union for the past eight years, Mr. R. C. S. McKenzie, of Bulls, finds that he is unable this year to accept that office for a further term. Regret was expressed at the annual meeting of the union in Marton last night. In a letter explaining that he could not accept office. Mr. McKenzie said that he had received ■'loyal and full assistance from the Management Committee, and the union as a whole, during his term of office. “I have made many friends, not only in Rangitikei, but also in Wanganui,” he wrote. Mr. McKenzie referred also to the great amount of detail work which had to be done on the management committee in Wanganui, and of the team spirit which prevailed. On the motion of Mr. A. Way, it was unanimously decided to elect Mr. McKenzie a life member of the Rangitikei Union had to place on record appreciation of his services to the game. Mr. McKenzie has been a prominent member of the Management Committee of the Wanganui Union, and during the depression period, when it was difficult to maintain the normal flow of revenue, he pioneered “no privilege” gates, setting the example himself by paying to see every match. He contended that when a sports body was in financial difficulty it was right and proper that everybody, officials as well as others, should pay to see the sport. Mr. McKenzie has also represented the Wanganui Rugby Union at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union in Wellington. He has been both president and vice-president of the Wanganui Union.
