RELIGION AND WAR ' Sil.—ln your issue of yesterday | morning appeared two letters by dif ferent authors, in reply to letters o ’mine, signed “Freedom.” To a “Modern Youth,” I really can' say anything; surely he must be abb to hear the “call for help" soundin; over the waves? “Ens Rationis' considers my statement that Chris would wield a sword as being bias phemous: very well, He might no actually do that, but I feel certair that His mighty influence would cer tainly be used on the side of justice When Christ came to this world, H< came to die for the sins of all mer and refused to raise a hand to sav< I Himself from the Cross that He might (finish His work: but does He requin His followers to allow themselves tc | be trampled to death by the sons o | evil? Cromwell and the Godly Puri tans fought for their rights against < tyrant. Gustavus Adolphus fought foi liberty of conscience in Europe. The Covenanters had to fight in Scotland ihe Hollanders had to fight against Spain. And James IL, of infamour memory, had to be taught at the point of the sword. This is on time foi idle talk. If Hitler gets the best ol ius we may wish that we had talker less.—l am, etc., “FREEDOM.” January IS. 1940.
