SERIOUS HEAD WOUND
MISS I REEMAN-MITFORD LONDON, Jan. 3. ; An earlier report that Hon. Unity ’ Freeman-Mitford, fourth daughter of Lord Redesdale, was suffering from a ; ’ serious wound in the head is coniirm--1 ed in a message from Paris which says « ’ she is walking with difficulty. : Miss Freeman-Mitford, v. ho is on her way home from Germany, arrived ; 1 in Paris to-day. She will leave Calais for England this afternoon. The News- ; Chronicle states that the bullet in her - head will not be removed immediately ’ ; on her arrival, but that site will go ‘ into hospital to be examined by specialists to ascertain whether an opera- ; cion is necessary. 1 Lord Reclesdale, who is waiting at ■ Folkestone to meet his daughtei, ; strongly defended her in an intciview | yesterday. 1 “I am not ashamed of anything that ; my daughter has done in Germany,’ he said, referring to her ardent support of the Nazi system ana close • friendship with Herr Hitler. “1 know ■ that all that she has done has been because she thought that it would , encourage Anglo-German friendship. i “I am longing to see her again. These months have been a great 1 strain. So many untrue stories have 1 been circulated about my family that I no longer take the trouble to deny ' them. I have even been called a Fascist. “It was not Unity's fault that her efforts were unsuccessful. Of course, she was upset when the war came.” An ambulance waggon is standing : by. Miss Freeman-Mitford left Germany ; via Switzerland in a specially chartered ambulance train. Her mother and sister have accompanied her from Switzerland.
