HOUR CYCLING RECORD
ATTEMPT IN WANGANUI PRIOR TO BIG SPORTS MEETING An attempt on the New Zealand one hour unpaced track cycling record of 24 miles 1282 yards will be made by R. Dutton (Wellington) before the big inter-club sports contest between Wanganui and Wellington on Cook’s Gardens to-morrow night. The attempt is timed to start at 6.45 and finish a quarter of an hour before the main meeting. It is nine years since the present record was established by R. G. Foubister (Auckland). Dutton, however, has been riding consistently well in distance races at Wellington and is confidently expected to reach 25 miles in the hour. As far as conditions are concerned, fine weather only is required, as the Cook’s Gardens track has recently been repaired and is considered to be the best in the Dominion. Twenty-five of Wellington’s leading athletes will be competing against the best in Wanganui at the big meeting. More than one record is expected to topple, and spectators are assured of seeing close finishes and first-class performances. In addition, some of the best cyclists in the North Island will be seen in action.
