Sea-bear Comes Ashore. A large sea-bear, about 10 feet' long, which came ashore at Pourerere, 1 about 20 miles from Waipawa, was an object of much interest to visitors during the week-end. The bear was [ first seen on Saturday, and when. surrounded by a crowd of beach resi- ■ dents it promptly returned to the. water. From time to time it came ( ashore again, however, but eventually disappeared altogether. The male of the species has a mane and is known as a sea-lion; the female, known as a: sea-bear, has no mane.
