BAN ON GERMAN EXPORTS
BRITISH REPLY TO AMERICA EXEMPTION ONLY IN SPECIAL CASES. Received. Jan. 5, 6.30 p.m. WASHINGTON, Jan 4. The State Department announced that the British Government had informed the United States that only “under very exceptional circumstances" would Britain exempt German exports to the United States from the blockade. This was not a reply to America's protest, but answered questions presented to the British Ministry of Economic Warfare by the United States Embassy shortly after the announcement of the blockade of exports.
