The motto, j"Compliments are like perfume; tn he [inhaled, but not swallowed,” was [given by Mrs. Homes. i Competitions resulted as follow . • i Christmas novelty, Mrs. Osborne 1. [Mrs. Anderson and Miss Osborne • equal) 2, Mrs. Watkins 3; best bloom. Mrs. Anderson; rolling shilling. Mrs. ' Homes. The demonstration for February will be wreath-making and the competition lion a jar of apple jelly. i On Friday evening "Apa House [presented a gay appearance when th* annual Christmas tree and party was held. The Parewanui school children, under the capable leadership of theii teacher. Mr. G. Abraham, entertained .their parents with a concert pro- [ gr ammo. The president thanked Mr. and Mrs. G. Abraham at the conclusion of rh'' .concert for their work in training th'* 1 I children so successfully. 1 "Father- Christmas” was then welcomed, and proceeded with merry jest to distribute gifts to children of : district. The Rev. Barnett, in appreciation of a gift which he had received from the children, spoke a few words. Supper- was served and a very pleas- , ant. evening concluded with the Na- [ t ional Ant hem. Bl I.LS WOMEN'S LNSTITLTE The December meeting of the Bulls I Women’s Institute was held on Monday, 11th inst., and Mrs. Jackson presided over a fair - attendance of mem- ! bers. Ar rangements were made for the institute Christmas tree party, which will be held in the Town Hall , on December- 18. Miss lona Ellery gave an ini erest- ; ing demonstration of icing a Christmas cake and Mrs. M. D. Anderson a demonstration of making bags from old felt hats, both ladies being aci corded hearty votes of thanks. Mrs. . R. E. Eyles gave a further talk on the growing of chrysanthemums, which was closely followed by members. Competitions resulted as follows: Best bloom: Mrs. G. Ellery 1, Mrs. Rankin 2. Mrs. Payne 3. Antirrhinums: Mrs. Rankin 1, Miss P. Wicks 2. Mrs. Huddleston 3. Vegetables: Mrs. H. Wicks 1. Mrs. Ross 2 Mrs. Witherington 3. The competition for February will be: Handworked nightdress and an article made from felt hats.
