OBITUARY

MRS. M. J. WARREN i Mrs, Mary Jane Warren, wife of i iMr. J. Warren, Waipukurau, has died ■ at the age of 87 years. It was her i pride that she had never had cause to seek medical aid for herself. She was born in Harrabridge, Devon, England, in 1852, the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Howe. Following her marriage in Tavistock, Devon, in her early twenties, she came to New Zealand with her l.usband in the ship Assaye, the journey occupying 17 weeks. They landed at Auckland in 1874. Mr. Warren joined the Railways Department, and they lived in several centres, reaching Waipukurau in 1909. Last August they celebrated their 65th. wedding anniversary and re-_ ceived a congratulatory message from" the King, in a fortnight Miv. Warren would have reached her 88th. birthday. # She is survived by her husband, six daughters and two sons: Mrs. Hugh Gillies (Hamilton), Mrs. C. H. Ryman (Remuera), Mrs. T. Taylor (Takapau), Mrs. A. F. Bleasdale (Whangarei), Mrs. H. E. Muncaster (Waipukulau), Miss Kat Warren (Waipukurau), and Messrs. T. F. Warren (New Plymouth), and C. H. Warren (Auckland). Another son, Mr. W. J. The death occurred suddenly in Eltham of Mr. Charles Norman Taplin, aged about 70, a weil known resident of the district. Born in Palmerston North, Mr. Taplin was well known in the Manawalu district as a commercial traveller. Later he entered the dental profession and began a practice in Eltham about 1921, For some years he was a member of the Eltham Borough Council. Besides a widow, Mr. Taplin leaves a son, Mr. Arthur Taplin. Otakeho, and two daughters, Mrs. Thomson, Dunedin, and Miss Irene Taplin, Eltham. MR. B. H. PRICE The death has occurred at Papanui, Canterbury, of Mr. Benjamin Henry Price, aged 85 years. Mr. Price was born in Great Yarmouth, England. At 14 years of age he w lit to sea, and came to New Zealand by the barque Helen Denny, afterward in the c’oal trade between Newcastle (N.S.W.) and Wellington, the trip taking 115 days. He left that vessel in New Zealand, and a little later served as one of the crew of the private yacht, owned by Sir James Fergusson, the first Governor of New Zealand. Later Mr. Price entered the carrying trade in Wellington, and, still later was partner in the photographic firm of Price and Connolly, Lambton Quay. Entering the hotel business, Mr. Price took over the old Central Hotel, or the corner of Hunter Street am Lambton Quay; afterward he wa: licensee for several years of the oh Albert Hotel, which stood on the site of the present Hotel St. George. During this period he was a well-knowi member of the Wellington Bowlinj Club. When he went to Christchurci he took over a lease of the Clarendor Hotel, and afterward Warner’s Hotel He retired from business in 1924, no: long after his first wife's death. Shi was a daughter of Mr. William Mitchell, Abel Smith Street. In 1928 hi married Mrs. Budden, in England. Mr. Price is survived by his wife, i son, Mr. F. A. Price, and threi daughters, Mesdames Rogers (Palmer ston North), Henry and Bethell (Wellington).
