OBITUARY

| MRS. LOUISE EDGEUUMBE j The death has occurred of Mrs. Louise Margaret of Ham- ( ilton, widow of the late., Mr. Henry Francis Edgecumbe, who was a wellknown surveyor in the Waikato district. Mrs. Edgecumbe was born at Onakou, Te Awamutu, being the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kay, pioneers of the Waikato. She lived in the Te Awa- , mutu district until the death of her husband in 1918, when she came to Hamilton to reside. She is survived by one son and two daughters. MRS. ELIZABETH RI LE The death ha.s occurred at the i residence of her daughter, Mrs. T. A. ! Ovenham, Huffily, of Mrs. Elizabeth Rule in her 91st. year. Born at Cam- ' bridge, England, Mrs. Rule, then Miss Elizabeth Allgood, came to New Zealand in 1878. The same year she married Mr. William Rule at Parnell, Auckland. The late Mrs. Rule lived the greater part of her life in Auckland, but for the last three years had been with her daughter at Huntly. She retained all her faculties up to a week before her death. Among her i many memories of an earlier Auck- ■ land was the running of the first train ; between Auckland and Helensville. [ Mrs. Rule celebrated her 90th. birth- I day in May of this year. Her husband j predeceased her 22 years ago and she : is survived bv four children. There are j 10 grandchildren and nine great- I grandchildren. MRS. ELIZABETH WOOD The death has occurred at Northcote of Mrs. Elizabeth Wood, a member of a pioneer farming family, who was j born at Green Island, near Dunedin, in ■ 1835. Mrs. Wood, who was the eldest , daughter of Mr. John Johnston, of | Kainiku, Otago, was married in 1877 ■ to Mr. George Wood, a farmer well 1 known in many parts of the country. : He died in 1933 at the age of 80. After living for several years at ' Chatton, in Southland, where Mr. ' Wood developed a farm of 1800 acres, | they moved to Gore. There Mr. Wood carried on an auctioneering business ' for five years in conjunction with Mr. A. A. Mac Gibbon, and also was a mem- ; ber of the Borough Council. The next 10 years were spent at Wendon, where Mr. Wood purchased 400 acres of land, afterward adding another 1000 acres. Deciding-to come to th/ North Island, Mr. Wood then sold the property, purchasing 1000 acres al Awahuri, nea.: Feilding. For a time Mr. Wood was engaged in the drapery business at Feilding, but he again went back to the land, buying farms in Taranaki and Manawatu. Mr. and Mrs, Wood later settled at Te Aroha West, and before Mr. Wood died, took up resident at
