CLEVERLEY MURDERER IMPRISONMENT FOR LIFE [ Per Prees Association ) WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. The Executive Council has commuted Arthur John Patience’s death sentence to life imprisonment. Found guilty of murdering his wife at. Claverley, near Christchurch, Patience was sentenced to death by Mr. Justice Northcroft in Christchurch on October 31. The jury added a strong recommendation for mercy, which His Honour said would be passed on to the proper quarter.
