Meteorological Office, Wellington, Wednesday, Dec. 6, 3 p.m. General Situation.—Pressure continues low in the South and is commencing to fall in the North with the movement eastwards of the recent anti-cyclone. Forecast.—Winds: Moderate to strong northerly to northwesterly, reaching gale force at times in exposed positions from Cook Strait southwards. A change to westerly or south-westerly advancing later from the South. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook Strait, moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea: Northerly winds prevailing with a change to southwesterly advancing from the South, force moderate in the North with moderate seas, strong in the South with rough seas. Weather: For the most part fair to fine. Unsettled, however, in western and far southern portions of the South Island, with rain at times and some showers probably extending to Canterbury after about 24 hours. Temperatures mild to warm but becoming cooler later in the South. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, reports as follows for 24 hours ended 6 p.m. yesterday: Hours of sunshine, 9 hours 40 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Maximum temperature, 76deg. Fahr.; minimum temperature, 48deg. Fahr.
