MALE VOICE CHOIR
RECITAL AT COLLEGIATE SCHOOL Under the baton of Mr. F. Wentworth Slater, L.R.S.M., the Wanganui Male Voice Choir presented a recital in the Big School at the Wanganui Collegiate School on Tuesday night. The programme opened with the New Zealand National Anthem, “God Defend New Zealand.” A popular item was the part song “Music,” composed by Mr. Siater. Other items presented by the choir were “Invictus,” “Evening Pastorale,” “Salamis.” “Rolling Down to Rio” and “Men of Harlech.” Mrs. Stella Wills sang as contraltol solos “The Hills of Donegal" and; “Homing” and Mr. W. Bayly Martin| sang as baritone solos “The Lute
Player” and “Red Devon by the Sea.” He also sang the solo in “Salamis.” The male quartette, Messrs. W. J. Healey, S. Kendall and G. P. Williamson. sang “Calm is the Sea” and the plantation melody “Down in the Cornfield.” The accompaniste was Mrs. Freda Cunninghame. At the conclusion of the concert the headmaster, Mr. F. W. Gilligan, expressed thanks on behalf of the school to the conductor and choir. Members of the choir were the guests of the headmaster and Mrs. Gilligan at supper.
