Meteorological Office, Wellington, Tuesday, Dec. 5. 3 p.m. General Situation.—Pressure continues high in the North while a depression is passing to the south of the South Island. Forecast.—Winds: North-easterly in parts of the North Island but directions between north and west predominating, force moderate in the north, fresh to strong elsewhere with gales in places. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: North-westerly winds, moderate in northern portion with moderate seas, strong to gale force elsewhere with rough seas. A change to south-westerly winds probable later in the southern portion. Weather: Continuing fair to fine in the North and in eastern districts north of Otago, cloudy to overcast elsewhere with unsettled conditions soon developing in the far South and extending gradually up the west coast with scattered showers possible as far north as the King Country. Temperatures warm east of the ranges, mild elsewffiere.
