RED CROSS NOTES. The Townspeople’s Red Cross Shop Day on Saturday realised £2l 7s 4d which is most gratifying. The executive wishes to thank donors of goods for their wonderful response to this first appeal. It is also desired to express appreciation of the untiring efforts of those ladies who had charge of the shop. Their work was really splendid. Those wishing to help the Red Cross Fund with cash or cheques are asked to kindly send in their contributions in the meantime to the president, Mr. A. James. The need is great. Every pound will help some soldiers who susain wounds or sickness in fighting air battles. MISS B. ADDIS’ PUPILS PRESENT CONCERT The concert presented in the Presbyterian Hall on Wednesday evening by Miss Beryl Addis and her pupils, was of a high standard and deserved more encouragement and a greater measure of public support. It demonstrated that as a result of sound instruction on the part of Miss Addis there is the ground work of solid achievement. The orchestral items were excellently played, each solo being rendered in a thoroughly capable and artistic manner reflecting credit 'on teacher and pupils alike. The programme opened with a minuet by the String Orchestra, followed by another selection by the orchestra. A violin solo was rendered by Lexie Davies, a similar item being contributed by Ivan Robinson. “When We're Together” and “The Sandman” were sung by the singing class. A violin solo by Gwen Fletcher was greatly enjoyed, as was also a ’cello solo by Miss R. Addis. Two violin solos by James Homes were well received. The second part of the programme opened with the Hungarian Dance No. 5 (Brahms) by a quartette, followed by Serenade (Heykens), arranged by Frank Crowther, bv Misses E., B. and R. Addis and J. Ward.
