MANAWATU GORGE ROAD
HIGHWAY ELOCKED BY SLIP WIDENING WORK IN PROGRESS. [ Per Press Association.] PALMERSTON N., Oct. 31. Shortly before 6 o'clock this morning a big slip fell in the Manawatu Gorge where widening work is proceeding about a mile from the Woodville end, completely blocking the highway and carrying thousands of tons. The slip swept away the handrailing on iJie side of the road for a considerable distance. It is hoped to have a track through by to-morrow, although traffic may have to deviate via the Pahiatua Roae.
