THRILL FOR BOYS
YOUNG EXPLORERS EXCITING VOYAGE HOME DODGING THE SUBMARINES Forty-five English public schoolboys, who took part in an adventurous trip to Newfoundland, returned to London last month after a thrilling voyage. They heard by wireless of the outbreak of war when they were in the middle of the Newfoundland wilds. On Lheir return journey in a British liner they took it in turns to keep watch with field glasses for enemy submarines, doing two-hourly shifts throughout the 24 hours. The liner, zig-zagging on a devious route, took weeks longer than usual to reach its destination. As soon as it | docked, telegrams were sent to the boys’ parents who had been unaware of their sons’ whereabouts.
