DETACHED HIGH SCHOOL

M’U < LASSROOM FOR OHAKI NE RAETIHI, Oct. 30. The following wire received by Mr. L. W. Nation, secretary of the Ohakune School Committee, from the Hon. F. Langstonc, Minister of Lands, speaks for itself: "Have pleasure in informing you Cabinet hits approved grant for erection of a detached block lontaining two classrooms, arts and crafts room and a science laboratory, together with a cloakroom and staff accommodation at Ohakune School.” The committee has been endeavouring for some, time to have the new high school erected and at last a start is to be made. Already a building has been erected to house the bus which will bring children in from the Karioi School and as soon as the new High School is completed the Umumuri and Karioi Schools will be closed and the children brought into the Ohakune School daily. Word has also been received by the secretary from the Wanganui Education Board that a grant has been made to carry out asphalting around the school. This will also be a boon as at present the school ground in close proximity to the school is covered with cinders and grit and in the wet weather becomes very stick and muddy while in the dry weather they become very dusty, making the caretaker's job a far from easy one.
