America’s repeal of the arms embargo has incensed the Press, which accuses arms manufacturers and profiteers of plotting to drag the United States into the war despite the increasing hostility of the American masses to such measures. The Soviet Press adds that the decision means that the United States will help England and France against Germany. NO OBSTACLE SEEN FINAL PASSAGE OF BILL Received Oct. 30. 10.23 p.m. NEW YORK, Oct. 30. The Washington correspondent of the New York Times says the Administration leaders profess no obstacle to the final passage of the Neutrality Bill and the adjournment of the session by the week-end. It is conceded generally that the only doubt is the size of the repealists’ majority in the House of Representatives. Meanwhile the battle over the repeal issue continues. Thirty Catholic, Jewish and Protestant religious leaders, including Chicago’s Bishop Bernard Shell, jointly issued a statement urging repeal. Father Coughlin and Archbishop Francis Beekman broadcast in favour of retention of the arms embargo. The telegranh companies report a renewed deluge of messages to representatives, mostly of the organised propaganda type, favouring retention of the embargo. Extra police were posted al pier 11 on Staten Island after an all-night fire of mysterious origin. Lockheed bombers destined for Britain are stored on the adjacent pier 12, pending a decision on the arms embargo.
