CZECH CLASHES WITH NAZI POLICE
REPUBLICAN ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED
SPECIAL MEASURES TAKEN BY GESTAPO. LONDON. Oct. 29. According to information from Prague it is reported that four were : killed, many in jured, and 800 arrested I following German-Czech clashes dur- : ing the celebration of the twenty-first) anniversary of the foundation of the Czech Republic. * Shots were heard in several sections' during the night, rhe demonstrations lasting until dawn. German police placed a cordon round Wenceslas Square to prevent• demonstrations. This did not prevent the Czechs, wearing the national : colours and "Masaryk caps” breaking, through and collecting in front of the■ Town Hall. The police tried to tear) off the insignias, resulting in frequent i fights between the Czech townspeople and German Brown Shirts. Jan Masaryk, son of the first President of Czechoslovakia, M. Tomas Masaryk, and the other was M. Osusky. former Czech I Minister in Paris. M. The fate of Herr Adolf Hitler was already sealed and the Czechs would play an im port ant part in carrying out the sen tence. M. Osusky said the sufferings oi Czechoslovakia showed there could b* no partial peace ana no partial rights. The tragedy of a small nation proved that every oppression of a small nation affected the freedom of other small nations. Berlin Radio announces that the new President of Slovakia, M. Josef! Tiso, has appointed a new Ministry under Dr. Tuka, former deputy Prime Minister. Freedom Station Duel. Germans listened last night to an interesting duel between the German 1 Freedom station and the official jam-| mers. Five minutes after the broadcast opened the jamming started. The
Freedom station’s frequency was changed frequently, but for the first time the jammers were able to follow it quickly. However, the German people heard that a severe blow had been dealt the Nazis by the U.S.A. Senate vote on the arms embargo. Referring tG the Pope’s encyclical, the announcer urged German Catholics to rise against Hitler, and stated that the GermaiY Catholic leader had been killed fn a Nazi concentration camp. ;
