Dr. P. V, Graves was elected president at the annual meeting of the Waverley Lawn Tennis Club. Mr. W. 11. Gresham, of the staff of the Bank of New South Wales, Christchurch, who has been transferred from Amberley, has taken up his duties at Invercargill. Second-Lieutenant S. G. Hirst has been transferred from the North Auckland Regiment to the Ist. Battalian of the Waikato Regiment. Flying-Officer C. A. Pope, of the Royal Air Force, has been loaned to the Royal New Zealand Air Force for training purposes. He has left London for the Dominion. Sir Norman Nock. Lord Mayor of Sydney, and Mr. G. K. Bain, general manager of the Australian Guarantee Corporation, arrived at Wellington. They will return via Auckland after a short visit. Squadron-Leader B. S. Nicholl (Maslerton), who joined the Royal Air Force in 1931, has been transferred to the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and is on his way to the Dominion to take over training duties. The Rev. Father L. P. Spring, of Christchurch, has been appointed chaplain (Roman Catholic) with the New Zealand forces, and will be stationed at Papakura. Dr. J. L. Robson, who has returned from abroad and who was formerly a member of the staff of t,he Public Trust Office in Christchurch, has been appointed assistant superintendent of staff training under the Public Service Commissioner. Mr. F. H. Bethwaite announced at last night’s meeting of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce that he intended to resign his seat on the executive of the Associated Chambers ot Commerce. The president, Mr. D. G. O’Toole was nominated by the chamber to fill the vacancy. Mr. R. Preston, inspecting officer for the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Brigade, has been advised by the secretary of the Institute of Fire Engineers, Great Britain, that he has passed the membership examination, and gamed the highest marks for overseas candidates. Messrs. D. G. O’Toole (president), C. S. Jeffs (vice-president), and A. S. Burgess will represent the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce at the annual conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce. Mr. F. H. Bethwaite will attend the conference as a member of the executive. Mr. A. Godfrey, of Wellington, was a visitor to Wanganui for the weekend. Formerly a member of the Aramoho Boating Club, Mr. Godfrey is the resident delegate of the Wanganui Rowing Association on the New Zealand Rowing Association. When in Wanganui, Mr. Godfrey achieved success as a sculler and is a former winner of the Pearce Cup for the senior singles at the Wellington regaUa. _______
