WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Monday, October 30, 3 p.m. General Situation. A deep depression is centred near Chatham Island. Bolometers have been rising over the Dominion but are commencing to fall again in the far South. Forecast. —Winds: Fresh to strong south-westerly prevailing and leaching gale force in exposed positions north of Banks Peninsula and Farewell Spit, decreasing gradually, however, and later tending westerly or possibly north-westerly. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough io high from Banks Peninsula to East Cape and on the west coast of the North Island, but moderating somewhat to-morrow; elsewhere moderate to rather rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong but decreasing south-west winds turning to north-westerly in the southern portion and later freshening again; seas rather rough to rough. Weather: Cold, squally and changeable with showers at times in most districts. Conditions better, however, on the west coast of the South Island and improving gradually elsewhere. Some sharp frosts probable to-nighi on the Canterbury plains and in Central Otago. The New Zealand Friends’ School.
