ARAMOHO BOATING CLUB MITCHELL SHIELD CONTEST FIRST ROUND RESULTS Weather conditions were most, unfavourable last evening for the opening races for the Mitchell Shield, the first trophy event of the season for the Aramoho Boating Club. In spite of the conditions the standard of rowing was good and the races were very interesting, Jeromson winning from Papper in the first and Stowers defeating Anderson in th- second. Tn the. tirst race both crows got away to a good start. Pepper’s crow showed the way over the first halfmile. but from that stage, Jeromson’s crow, rowing strongly together, gradually overhauled the loaders and passed the judge with two lengths to spare. The winning crow was as follow: J. Jeromson (str.), V. Gooding (3), L. Newman (2), M. Beauchamp (bow). The second race was more exciting, and both crews got away smartly. Anderson's crew was the first to gain an advantage, which was held to the creek, where Stowers drew level. Both crews rowed neck and neck to Brunswick' Road, where Stowers’ crew showed superior combination and gradually took the lead to win comfortably by a length. The winning crew was as follow: P. Stowers (str.). A. W. Clarke (3), D. Coughlin (2), J. Verrail (bow). The following is the draw for this evening:— Firmin rows Brown. Stowers rows Jeromson.
