CASE DISMISSED
CHARGE OF SUPPLYING FALSE INFORMATION STRONG PROTEST MADE [ Per Press Association ] CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 27. "I wish to make the strongest protest that this charge should have been brought at all. It is a scandalo’.is | instance of prosecution developing into persecution." declared counsel in the Magistrate's Court to-day when William Connor was charged with supplying false information. After hearing the evidence, the magistrate, Mr. E. C. Levvey, dismissed the charge, saying it revealed a very grave omission in the regulations. Sub-Inspector Packer said that Connor was involved in an accident on Afril 26 and on July 11 was convicted on a charge of failing to give way. Later he was involved in an accident in which a man was killed and he made a voluntary statement to the police. In this he said he had been driving for 14 years and had never had an accident. Counsel said Connor was under no obligation to give the information and could only answer questions to the best of his ability. He submitted there was no case to answer. The case was dismissed.
