NEW GIRLS’ COLLEGE

PLANS BEING PREPARED DEPUTATION TO EDUCATION DEPARTMENT “I have already commenced the preparation of plans of what I hope vsnll prove a complete and ‘Satisfactory building,” stated Mr. E. R. Hodge, architect to the Wanganui Education Board, reporting on the proposed new Wanganui Girls’ College, to yesterday’s meeting of the Board of Governors. “The lay-out and proposed alterations are somewhat different to the first proposal,” added Mr. Hodge, “but the change, I think, will be equally efficient in planning and design as the J original proposal.” Mr. Hodge reported that Mr. G. S. Gordon, chairman of the board, Mr. G. N. Boulton, secretary, and Miss M. E. Baker, principal of the college, and he had visited the Education Department in regard to the matter. They na** discussed with the senior inspector of secondary schools, Mr. E. J. Parr, and the architect to the Education Department, Mr. R. Savage, the accommodation necessary to assure the complete functional efficiency of the college. “The deputation met with a very sympathetic hearing and one which gives promise of satisfactory results to the board’s efforts,” said Mr. Hodge. Interviewed after the meeting, Mr. Boulton said that when Mr. Hodge’s plans were finished they would be submitted to the Education Department tor its approval. Tenders for the construction of the new building would be called immediately the plans were approved.
