STORTFORD LODGE HASTINGS, Oct. 25. Fat cattle met an exceptionally brisk market at the Stortford Lodge sale to-day. The yarding of 180 head included a fair percentage ol quality pens and competition for these was very keen, with outside buyers being active. Bullocks predominated, ana occupied practically the whok? of the first hour of the selling. The market was lopped by two extra heavy snow entries, whicn would scale close on llOUlb. They were sold privately at £2O after being passed in at £l9 10s. Exceptional quality was shown in a pen of Red Polled oullocks, which made £l5. Several pens ol medium to heavy bullocks ranged from £l2 to £l3 15s, and a number of lighter pens which were flushed with feed ana i lacked finish, made from £l6 10s to I £lO 15s. The tops of the beef pens | averaged from 37s to 38s a 1001 b. [ Heifers were in limited supply ana * being well-finished and showing quali ity. made an average of about 40s a ! 100 lb. Values ranged from £lO to £l2 4s in the cow pens, which were very I mixed, and included few young quality entries. Early in the sale an aver- ! age of 32s was made for some pens, I but later values rose, and plain, aged, and inferior sorts made very dear buying at from £7 to £B. Vealers and runners were not on offer. The market was sound for a yarding of approximately 2000 head of store cattle, Ihe range being wide. For all sorts a good inquiry was shown.
