BOXING IN WELLINGTON
SLOANE BEATS CALTAUX [ ( AUSTRALIAN TWICE DOWN BUT 1 GETS VERDICT I t I I Per Press Association.] € WELLINGTON, Oct. 26. In the best professional boxing t match seen in Wellington this year, c Syd Sloane (Australia) outpointed Vic c Caltaux (Auckland) over twelve c rounds to-night. < It was a case of a boxer beating a fighter. Only nimble footwork and clever bobbing and weaving enabled the Australian to weather several of the Aucklander’s furious attacks. There w r as intense excitement in the eleventh round when Caltaux dropped his man for the count of nine. No sooner had the Australian resumed the perpendicular than a two-handed assault had Sloane again on the canvas, but the gong sounded on the count of five. The verdict for Sloane met with some dissent, but clever bc-xing earned him a narrow victory. ■ —d t
