FIXING OF HOURS
PETROL RESELLERS xo SALES ON SUNDAYS Under the War Emergency Regulations the .Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. 'l'. Armstrong, has decided to fix the hours of petrol resellers. Regulations have been drafted giving the ■ Minister authority to fix the hour* asked for by a requisition to be signed by a majority of the resellers in the- * d’strict and also to provide penalties '"’W for non-observance of the regulations. ’ ■ It is required that where hours of business are fixed, provision must be ’ made for tho supply of oil fuel for urgent requirements during the hours when petrol stations are closed, and that a notice be prominently display(ed at all petrol stations indicating I where such urgent supplies may be i obtained. An urgent, meeting of the Wanganui Petrol Resellers’ Association was held yesterday, when it was decided to adopt the suggestion made recently in Wellington and to close local petrol stations all day on Sundays, Christmas Day. Good Friday and Anzac Day. The hours to be observed on week- • days are to bo from 7.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and 7.30 . a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays (laic night). To meet urgent supplies vrhen other stations are closed Martin & Vernon, Hodson’s Motors, and the Europa Service Station (Putiki) were nominated. It. was ascertained that, the two former establishments were compelled to remain open every day throughout lhe year and late at night for the ar- • rival and despatch of service cars, and ■ that the Europa Service Station un- , dertook to have an officer on duty day and night to supply urgent cases. A requisition is now in circulation for the signature of all petrol station owners in the city, and it is hoped to have the requisite signatures thereto ■ within the next, day or two.
