PRICES OF ORANGES
GOVERNMENT ACTION ; JUSTIFIED EXPLANATION GIVEN t I’*-r Press Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH. Oct. 26. n A contrast to the strong objection tail fruit- _ erers to the Government’s action in q increasing the wholesale price of _ oranges by three shillings a case. Two New Plymouth wholesale merchants ■ _ who supply retailers, consider inf ci ease quite warranted in view of the circumstances. The wholesalers pointed out that on Friday firms were -notified of the Government's, decision ito raise the wholesale price three shillings a case. Yesterday they received . . information which proved to them ‘ , that thp increase was warranted. , They were told the Government has n found it necessary to send a special representative to Australia. Had he t i not gone. New Zealand would have t had no oranges at all, for it was de- , cided in Australia not to export any. | , 'ln view of the cost involved, the Gov-1 * ernmenf had found it necessary to in- ! crease the price.
