MAKIRIKIRI CLUB annual meeting held ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The annual meeting of the Makirikiri Tennis Club was held in the ? Upokongaro Hall on Tuesday night, . Mr. Friedrick presiding. It. was decided that the club sub- ,• scriptions should be the same as they 2 were last year. The opening day was fixed for t Saturday, November 4, when there . will be held a Yankee tournament and other competitions, golf-putting, bowls, ? etc., games to commence at 10.30 a.m. s Votes of thanks were passed to the t retiring president, Mr. F. Friedrich, - to the honorary auditor, Mr. W. P. ? Newsham, and to the secretary, Mr. t H. J. Clemance. The report read as follows: “Last j season opened on Saturday, October 1 29, a Yankee tournament being held on that date. During the season home _ and away matches were played against 3 Okoia, SI. James, and Durie Hill clubs, s both A and B teams competing. Wn 2 were also visited by a team from the ? Brunswick district, and a very enjoyable day's play resulted. The standard of play improved during (he season, and the club championships and handicaps held at its close were keenly contested. The trophies for these com- * petitions were presented at the annual - dance, which, though it did not result in a large profit, was a very on1 joyable social function. Thanks are due to Misses Hammand and Howard, s the dance secretaries, and to a hards working ladies' committee. During the season a new marker ? was purchased, and the posts round - the courts painted, the latter greatly improving the appearance of the -1 grounds.. Early in the season the club • lost one of its keenest and most popu- ’ lar members, Colin Horrocks, whose 1 sudden and untimely death was 1 mourner! by all.
