McKELVIE MEMORIAL

OPEN HANDICAP AT BULLS GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED The J. F. McKelvie Memorial Handicap will provide the main feature of the Rangitikei Placing Club's spring meeting at Bulls to-morrow, and with a field of eight engaged the issue appears very open. Perhaps the field may be smaller when the starter gets his hand on the lever, as Cuisinier is in the hurdle race and Chief claims an engagement in the Farewell Hack Handicap. Lady Montana is topweight with 8.8. She has been placed this season, but last year she won the Wellington Racing Club Handicap and the Autumn Handicap at Wairarapa. Play On has not won for more than a year but at his best he would have a chance. Royal Star II appears to be getting back to the form which enabled him lo win the Wairarapa Cup last New Year’s Day. Corroboree beat all but Yours Truly in the C. F. Vallance Memorial at Mastertoil recently. Cuisinier’s win in the Highweight Handicap at Masterton suggested that he would be in the picture if started here. Lord Moutoa finished well into third place behind Hunting Cat and Yours Truly at Otaki, and with his light weight he should be hard to beat. Red Chief Is a promising hack and Verey Lights was responsible for some good efforts last season. Probably Lady Montana, Royal Star II and Cuisinier will be accorded most support. Arrivals at Bulls Several of the visiting trainers have already arrived at Bulls, and more are due to arrive to-day and on the morning of the races. L. G. Morris has booked accommodation for four, D. T. Marks and B. Burgess for three each, Leo George for two, and P. Burgess, A. Jenkins, C. Stowe, C. Davidson, Puti, T. L». Baker, J. E. Olsen and J. Sullivan one each. Light rain yestcicw will put the track in perfect order, and the going to-morrow should be excellent. A feature of the appointments at Bulls is the fact that motorists may drive right in on the grounds to park their ears, admission to the enclosure being obtained from the parking area. The additions and alterations to the ' members’ stand will also be appreciated. the club having spent upwards of £2OOO on this work. Ellis had his first mount, in the Dominion since his return from an Australian trip with Defaulter and Gold Salute when he got. up on Knight Commander at the North Canterbury meeting. Ellis was at 'Lrcntham last, week but did no! get a mount the first day and left, for the South Island. After making the trip from Takanini, Lapidarian had to forgo hi.s engagement in the Hunters’ Hurdles at the Waikato Hunt Club’s annual meeting at Cambridge on Monday.
