THE MILITARY RESERVE RECRUITING TO CEASE [Ter Press Association. J WELLINGTON, Oct. 16. The Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, stated to-day that as there were now sufficient enlistments in the . National Military Reserve it was not 1 intended to ask for further enlist- 1 ments. The total enlistments to [ October 13, he said, were 35.407, which , ‘ had given the Army Department an 1 adequate number for service in the ’ three classes of reservists. Recruiting, therefore, would be discontinued as from October 21. |, Mr. Jones expressed deep apprecia- ' tion for the splendid response and for the enthusiasm of those undergoing ' training. The Minister emphasised J that this statement applied only to 1 the military reserve and not to the I special force. Recruiting for the lat- ' tor would be vigorously continued and j those who desired to join the second ‘ or third echelon could enlist now al- ■ though they would not be called up until later. ‘ New Age Limits Mr Jones announced that the ofll- j cers tor the second echelon of the , special force were now being selected ( throughout New Zealand. He said T those°officers who wished to be in- , eluded should report and register ' immediately at the nearest army f office for examination and selection. The new age limits are: * Subalterns. 35; captains, 40; majors, 15; lieut.-colonels, 50. Officers selected for service will encamp on November S for a -special training course. Recruiting of other ranks was proeroding as usual, but n.c.o. s and men would not be called up until later as with the case of officers. However, n.c.o.’s would precede other ranks for J. a special course of training.
