ROTORUA HOSPITAL

ACCOMMODATION TAXED DECAY IN GRANTING LEASE HAMILTON, Oct. 14. A further discussion with regard to the Rotorua Hospital site took place at a meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board to-day, Mr. J. Banks said that residents ot Tc Whaiti, including many Maoris, were coming into the Rotorua Hospital. This area was in the Whakatane County. The conditions at the hospital were very congested, and it was a question whether patients from another hospital district should be admitted. He wanted to know when the question of the lease would be settled and when steps would be taken to increase the accommodation. Mr. J. Price said that the board could not refuse patients from another district. There was nothing the board could do to remedy the conditions at the P.otorua Hospital until the lease of the land on which the institution stood was transferred to the board. Mr. H. M. Martin said that provision must be made soon for a much larger hospital to cope with the growing needs of the district. Mr. D. B. Livingstone said he felt that the people ot Rotorua were to blame for the position that had arisen. The chairman said the Minister had informed him that he did not realise until the matter was referred to the Lands Department and the Native Affairs Department that there were so many difficulties in the way of finalising the matter. The Ministei had said he had done his best, but he had been pressed for time in which to give full attention to the question.
