Maurice Malkin, a charter member of the United States Communist Party, testified before the Dies Committee that the party has nuclei in the Brooklyn Naval Yard, one of the largest in the United States. Thes have been transmitting secret information to the Soviet for years-througli an Ogpu agent located in New York in the same way as information relating to industrial plants was sent. Malkin testified that the Communist. Party employed many New York gangsters such as Jack ("Blacklegs"' Diamond, to eliminate recalcitrant persons or groups blocking Communist infiltration by the party where it plaved a predominant role. The Los Angeles correspondent of the United Press stated that Edward McDonough, a draughtsman at the Douglas aircraft plant, was arrested by Federal agents on a charge of stealing drawings of plans used in the construction of military aeroplanes. McDonough was sent to gaol in default of bail. The Army Intelligence Service has summoned the Federal Bureau of Investigation in a case in which reports of sabotage, which also involved the warship Arizona, were received h\ G-men.
