ROWLING SEASON OPENS 'Own Correspondent > PATEA. Oct. 14. There was an excellent attendance of bowlers at the opening of the Patea Bowling Club’s season on Saturday, visitors being present from Wanganui, Waverley, Waitotara, and Kaponga. The president, Mr. F. Ramsbottom, extended a welcome to the visitors, particularly those who had travelled from Wanganui and Kaponga. He also welcomed the intending members and paid a tribute to one of their members who had done into camp. He read a telegram from the Hawera Bowling Club extending good wish ?c for a good bowling season, and also one from Mr. J. Goodwin, and apologised for Mr. D. Quickenden. Invitations were received from the Kaponga and Eltham Bowling Clubs for Patna players to attend their opening days, both on October 21. The Mayor. Mr. E. F. Hemingway, also extended a welcome to the visitors, not only to the bowling green but to the town, and expressed the hope that al! would have a successful bowling season. The first kitty was thrown by Mrs. F. Ramsbottom and the first bow I by the oldest playing member, Mr. M. Carey. At the dose of the afternoon. Mr. Dallison spoke on behalf of the visitors.
