GU T EXE.MNG A gilt, evening was held by Miss M, Dickie on Thursday evening in honour of Miss Gwen Mathieson, whose marriage takes place this month. The drawing-room at “Hayes” was beautifully decorated with tulips and apple blossom, and the evening was spent tn bridge. The winners were: Ladies, Miss M. Mathieson; men, Mr. D. McKenzie. BOV SCOUTS ENROLLED The local boys who have been receiving instruction in Scout work at the hands of Scoutmaster Ramsbottom and Cubmistress Kelly, of Pawn, were duly enrolled on Wednesday lev'.ung by ex-Scoutmaster Pauling, in the presence of a number of parents and friends, including visitors from Patea. Among the latter wore Mr. F. Ramsbottom, president of the Patea t'roop of Boy Scouts. Mrs. Hamsbol- * tom. president of the Patea Giri Guides' Troop and Mrs. Davidson and King's Scout Davidson, and Miss Kelly, Cubmistress, of Patea. A very interesting talk on Scout matters was given by Mr. Linehan, headmaster of the local school, which was listened to with rapt attention by the boys. After the enrolment of the boys had been carried out, the visitors were entertained at supper, when appreciation of the work ot Scoutmaster Ramsbottom and Cubmistress Kelly in coming down to Waverley and instructing the boys, was expressed by the Rev. P. A. Stanley and Rev. E. K. E. Ross. Mr. F. Ramsbottom thanked the speakers for the appreciative remarks and expressed the willingness of the Patea committee to do ail in their power to assist the local Scouts. A wish was expressed that a troop of Girl Guides be formed in Waveney, and Mrs. Ramsbottom stated that she and Mrs. Hamel, secretary of the Patea Girl Guides, would visit Waverley and assist in the formation of a troop.
